Spray painting

During the spray painting method, the single-coloured paint is sprayed ontoto the glass surface through a spray gun with the help of high pressure compressed air, while the gun is evenly moved horizontally and downward. In case of applying several paint layers, the next layer can be added only if the previous painted surface is completely dry. This process completed with a heat treating, known as tempering.

This painting method is used only for non-serial, small size glass production. In case of big glasses the used method is roller painting or GlassPrint, that is, printing on glass. Spray painting is slower, demands more time, and requires more layers of paint on the surface compared to other painting techniques. For this reason larger glasses are not painted with this method, because from the production point of view it is ineffective.

Roller painting

Roller painting or the parapet method is a process in which the whole glass surface is covered by a layer of paint inone of the colors from the RAL scale.After the layer of paint has dried, the painted glass is heat treated. During the tempering, the paint quickly burns into the glass surface at more than 600°C.

With the roller painting method, the painting machine is set always according to the the customer’s order, because it is thedemand which determines the paint thickness. The thichness of the paint is also affected by the following factors: feeding speed of the glass, rotational speed of the paint roller, speed of the dosing roller, the rate of ribs on the paint roller, etc.

Roller painting

Roller painting is a quite fast and productive glass processing, and it can be used in case of variable-sized and shaped glasses. This process is suitable for counters (freezer or bar counters, wash stands) glass railings, glass wall coverings, glass doors (e.g.: shower cabin door, front door), glass shelves and tables, or in case of reinforced concrete pillars, as a painted glass wall cover.

It is interesting that earlier, at least 15 kg of paint was necessary to fill the machine and for paint circulation. However, we experimented with a new technological solution, which fully replaces the need for spray painting and made the method much more effective, that is, the quantity of necessary minimum paint has been reduced. With this method we are able to paint even 10-12 m2 glass surface using only 2-2.5 kg of paint.

Screen printing

During screen painting, the paint is applied to some parts of the glass surface for decorative purposes or to the whole surface for coloring purposes by pressing it through an illuminated mesh.

Similarly to roller painting, in case of screen painting the glass is tempered at least 600°C after the paint has dried. The size and the kind of mesh used depends on the pattern of the screen printing. In case of screen printing we primarily use aluminum frames, whose cross-section is a rectangle and the typical sizes are: 400 x 400 mm, 400 x 600 mm, 400 x 800 mm. The maximum size of the frame is 2200 x 3600 mm, and the minimum size is 100 x 280 mm.

The frame has to be cleaned after every use, but it is reusable.. This process is suitable for printing logos, pictograms and in case of simple patterns. It is an environmentally friendly and economical process. The quickness and effectiveness of the method is most visible in serial productions.

Screen printing is convenient for painting glasses used for bus stops, covered bicycle storages, outdoor furnitures, lamps, fireplace doors, logos, etc.
