Grinding is a process for smoothing the glass edges which may be carried out with a grinding machine or manually.
Types of grinding:
-Edge grinding, chamfering
-Polished straight edge
-Bevelling (angle grinding of straight edges of the glass, between 5-50 mm width, at 4-25 degrees, which can be straight or arched)
-Corner rounding
-Corner dubbing
-Angle grinding
Aesthetic griding can be polished or matte finished.
Grinding is a process which follows cutting, which is used to smooth the cutting edges for aesthetic and safety purposes.
Grinding is one of the basic conditions of tempering, bacause after grinding the glass becomes unstressed. Grinding is used for architectural glasses, mainly for security reasons. For bigger glass surfaces grinding is used for unstressing, up to6 mm thickness with flat edge grinding, for 8 mm and above with chamfering, which grinds the glass edge and the egde surface, too.
Examples of aesthetic grinding can be found in interior architecture, its purposes is to make the visible edges decorative.
